Furniture designers are also getting creative with other natural materials as well, such as bamboo. Rattan always portrays a fresh, warm and exciting ambience to a space.

2. Antique, Vintage, and Traditional Furnishings

If you love all things traditional, you will love the resurgence of furniture with rich detailing and decorative accessories. Vintage is also trending for 2020, and many designers use just one vintage piece rather than furnish an entire room vintage style. Look to see more items popping up with spooled legs and spindles that are a classic feature of vintage and traditional furniture.Older pieces not only look great but are also an easy way to integrate sustainable products into the home. Experts say consumers will take note in the year ahead. According to an article on furniture trends, published by Architectural Digest at the close of 2019, Sotheby’s Home has seen a 35 percent increase in vintage and antique sales in the last year. Tamara Rosenthal, Sotheby’s VP of Marketing, suggests that this could be due to an increased emphasis on the environment—a theme that has already set the tone for design in 2020.

“People are becoming increasingly mindful of how their shopping habits and daily lives are impacting the environment,” says Rosenthal, via Architectural Digest. “Because of that, they are finding ways to curb this impact and be more eco-friendly.”

Buying antique home decor is considered environmentally friendly for a few reasons. When you buy something antique, you might be saving it from a more wasteful fate of ending up in a landfill. Furniture that’s been around longer will also release less toxic fumes into your air, via the finishings and glue.

3. Chinoiserie ceramics and furniture

Chinoiserie, a fancy term for “Asian-style,” shows up year after year on multiple “hot trend” lists. Our fascination with all things oriental isn’t news either. But a shift in focus is on the rise. Intrigue with the ancient Han tomb figures and Tang horses is giving way to a greater appreciation for Chinoiserie Chic – or the decorative items produced in the 18th – 20th centuries. Way? Because the finest kiln masters, carvers and workshops were called upon during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1711-1799) to serve both his imperial tastes and political aspirations for an international market economy. Their skills have been honed and passed down through the generations. Fine examples of porcelain, bronze, jade, enamel and lacquer decorative objects, furniture, silk textiles and works on paper are beginning to get the attention they deserve.

4. Old Metal and Rustic items

One of the reasons why industrial design trends are a hit these days is because of the raw simplicity. Industrial designs require little furniture and more floor space. This design genre wants people to be able to move around. Industrial elements can be vintage or rustic. Never mind that they came from an older architectural genre. Industrial design elements will look good when balanced with modern fixtures. If you are thinking of a modern condo interior design inspired by industrial elements, you must know that the range of colors to choose from is a little narrower. White, gray, black, and wooden brown add to the sleek look of this design trend.

6. Canopy Beds

Canopy beds are definitely hitting a high note this year. Throwbacks tend to trend, and canopy beds are no exception. With bedrooms being the oasis for comfort, having a canopy magnifies this offering a touch of serenity and even luxury. Canopy beds look great in any style bedroom. However, careful consideration needs to be given to the size and frame of the bed as well as the size of the room. You don’t want heavy-looking posts to weigh down a small room. Sleek metal or acrylic canopy frames can offer rooms an interesting appeal while leaving an airy feel.
